What is YCC?What is YCC?

Four graduate students

The American Chemical Society’s Younger Chemists Committee (YCC) was formed to identify the needs and concerns of young chemists and to develop programs responsive to their needs. YCC is driven by three goals:

  1. Make the ACS relevant to younger chemists
  2. Increase the involvement of younger chemists in the ACS at all levels
  3. Develop mechanisms to integrate younger chemists into the profession

Younger chemists are those who are not yet established in their careers.

The Rochester YCC was founded in August 2003 by Katie Leach with guidance by David Foster. Since that time a wide range of activities of interest to younger Rochester Section chemists has been organized to satisfy the YCC goals, including a recruiting lunch, volunteer opportunities in community schools, organized sporting and outdoor events, and a quiz bowl. In addition to YCC activities, younger chemists are encouraged to participate in programs offered by the local Section.

Chemluminary Nominations

Our Rochester YCC section was selected as a finalist for two Chemluminary Awards in 2008:

Outstanding Local Section Younger Chemists Committee Award
Outstanding or Creative Younger Chemist Committee Event Award

Without the support of our members and help from the dedicated subcommittee chairs, these nominations would not have been possible. Thanks for all of your hard work and support!
