Eight members from the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes received Chemistry Department class awards today for their outstanding performance in the 2008-2009 academic year.
Layla Hatem, Jonathan Raybin, and Emily Redman received the Freshman Chemistry Achievement Award, sponsored by CRC Press, Inc. Students are selected by the faculty and receive a copy of the "CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics."
Mark Levin (freshman) and David Weinberg (sophomore) both received the Merck Index Award, a copy of "The Merck Index", for their academic performance in organic chemistry. Juniors, Colin Kinz-Thompson and Randy Mehlenbacher, received the Merck Scholar Award consisting of a cash prize.
The last award given during our first chemistry department get together of the 2009-2010 year, went to sophomore Andrew Kim for demonstrating excellence in inorganic chemistry. This newly established award consists of a certificate and letter of commendation from the ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry.
