Professor Kiessling received her Sc.B. in Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973, and Ph.D. in Chemistry from Yale University in 1989 where her thesis advisor was Stuart Schreiber. She then went on to do postdoctoral research at California Institute of Technology with Peter Dervan. She joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991.


Kiessling has received numerous honors and awards including the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Young Investigator Award, the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, the National Science Foundation National Young Investigator Award, the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award from the American Chemical Society, and a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.


Kiessling is being recognized for her impressive work at the interface of chemistry and biology, and specifically for her work on the synthesis and applications of materials that illustrate the biological role of carbohydrates and the understanding and study of signal transduction pathways.


Professor Kiessling was honored during the Harrison Howe Award Symposium on October 16, 2006 at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY.
