UR Chemistry Graduate Student Profile
The Chemistry Department enrolls a well balanced and diverse group of approximately 90 graduate students. About two-thirds of our students come from throughout the U.S., and one-third from outside the U.S. Around 40% of our students are female.
We have an active Younger Chemists Committee (YCC), which is part of the Rochester section of the American Chemical Society.
The Rochester YCC regularly sponsors activities involving students, postdocs, and faculty. These include:
- Service to the community such as the
Adopt-A-School program
in which graduate students teach or assist 4th-grade science classes
- Chemistry demonstrations at the Northeast Regional Meeting of the ACS
- Intramural and summer sports (floor hockey, soccer, volleyball, flag football, softball, bowling tournament, golf scramble)
- Outdoor activities (hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting)
- The “Mole Bowl” chemistry trivia tournament
