About the University of Rochester

Rush Rhees LibraryThe graduate program in Chemistry is in the College of Arts and Sciences, located on the University's River Campus that is situated on 85 wooded acres overlooking the Genesee River. Other campuses of the University include the  School of Medicine and Dentistry, a short walk from the River Campus; the Eastman School of Music located three miles away in downtown Rochester; and the South Campus located a mile away, site of the Laboratory for Laser Energetics.

The University of Rochester is a distinguished private university, one of only 19 that have been in the American Association of Universities for over 50 years. Its modest population (8000 total students) provides the close student-faculty interactions usually associated with smaller institutions. However, the unusual strength of programs in natural and biomedical sciences, humanities, social sciences, engineering, business, music, and film studies ensures the bustle and excitement of a large university.
