The Program's Scope and Objectives

The University of Rochester has been awarded funding from the U. S. Department of Education for Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) Fellowship Program. The GAANN Program provides fellowships to excellent students who are pursuing a doctoral degree in the Department of Chemistry. This program will enable a greater number of students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, including women and minorities, to pursue doctoral degrees. Our Department will provide the resources for outstanding graduate education and training, including course work, workshops, seminars and research projects that focus on approaches to important chemical and interdisciplinary problems, as well as a structured, supervised teaching experience and professional development and support, as students progress toward their Ph.D. degree.

  • Demonstration of financial need based on student financial aid (FAFSA form)
  • Plans to pursue the highest possible degree in the Chemical Sciences, the Ph.D.
