The Department has strong research programs in interdisciplinary areas such as chemical physics, photochemistry, metal-organic, organometallic, biophysical, bioorganic, and bioinorganic chemistry. The effective interaction between different research groups encourages such interdisciplinary research and often makes it difficult to classify many of our faculty into the traditional chemical disciplines.
Collaborative and interdisciplinary research also extends to other areas of the University. There are active interactions with many departments, including Earth and Environmental Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry & Biophysics, Physics, Chemical Physics, Optics, and the UR Medical School.
